It
is ILLEGAL to use your minimoto on the road or pavement.
Simple as that. If you want to ride your minimoto on the
road, it must be registered (thus providing you with a
V5 document - which means you must fit lights etc to your
vehicle), must pass an MOT, and must be taxed. You as the
rider must also hold a suitable Driving License, a
CBT certificate, and insurance.
There is no point complaining when you're stopped on your
bike that it's just a toy. It isn't. It really is THAT
simple. You put the lives of yourself and others at risk
every time you take your bike out on the streets, and to
do so without adequate cover and protection is plain irresponsible.
Riding your minimoto on the road without ANY of the above
is just as serious as doing so in a car or any other vehicle,
with the penalties equal.
The MMRA does not condone nor encourage the use of Minimotos
anywhere but on the track. Race Circuits and Private Land
(with the owners' permission) are the ONLY places where
they may legally be used without insurance, licensing etc
etc. Even then, you must still conform to regulatory noise
requirements - ie: no riding them after a specific time
as set by the council. If you are planning for a group
of you to use Private Land, you should contact the local
council to find out what noise curfew you should adhere
to to avoid complaints from nearby residents.
We (the MMRA) have made
allowances this year to allow the cheap Chinese Minimotos
to be included within our Race Series, as have many other
clubs, so now there really is NO EXCUSE.
Even on the track, one should only use your bike with
suitable safety gear - an ACU approved helmet, sturdy clothing
(preferably race leathers), and boots are a recommended
minimum.
To race within the MMRA, you and your machine must meet
the guidelines set out within our Rulebook.
